I don’t usually start a product review with a recommendation, but in the case of GrowlVoice for Mac, I’m going to make an exception. If you have a Google Voice account and a Mac do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of GrowlVoice.

The $4.99 application developed by Eric Horacek, is one of my favorite and most used Mac utilities. The excellent Google voice client lets you send and receive texts right from the Mac menu bar quickly and easily.

The threaded text replies makes it extremely easy to view and respond to recent messages in your Google Voice inbox again from the convenience of your Mac menu bar.

Calling from Gmail available in more countries, with lower rates!

Calling from within Gmail to any mobile phone or landline is now accessible outside the U.S., in 38 languages. In addition to the service being available in more countries you can now buy calling credits in four currencies (Euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars or U.S. dollars) with no connection fees.

 “To help reduce the cost of staying connected, we’re also lowering our calling rates to over 150 destinations around the world. For example, it’s now only $0.10 (or €0.08) per minute to call mobile phones in the U.K., France or Germany (landlines are $0.02/min), $0.15/minute to call mobile phones in Mexico and $0.02/min to call any phone number in China and India” according to Pierre Lebeau, Product Manager, Gmail team.

Google voice app gets updated with widgets.

Google added widgets for its Voice application that adds fast access to the full Android App as well as one-click connection to four of its most common functions.

Your Google mail now has a voice!

A new Google Voice feature has been recently integrated into the Gmail web application, enabling users in the US to place calls to any landline or cellphone from within Google Mail. Even though the service is still in the process of being rolled out, callers reportedly completed over a million calls from Gmail on its first day of service, according to a recent Cnet report.

Faster=Better, Google Voice=Better, Make outgoing calls faster with “direct access numbers”!

Google launched an enhancement to the Android and Blackberry Google Voice App yesterday that speeds up the call connections using “Direct Access Numbers”. Prior to this update the Google Voice app had to make a request to the Google Voice server everytime a call was placed to send the number you wanted to dial.
