by Chris Coleman@PhoneKnack

Nokia is attempting to make a big splash in the US market and what better way to do that than to go after one of the top players in the game, Apple.

Nokia’s new ad campaign called Smartphone Beta Test, is a series of mock videos that showcases the developmental process of the iPhone. The aim of the campaign is to show the public that they are just part of beta testing while using an iPhone and they should head over to the nearest AT&T store and buy the new Nokia Lumia 900.

See one of the videos from the beta testing campaign after the break.

A new Motorola Android phone has surfaced and we can agree that this is a work of art. The Droid Fighter as it is being called is a 4.6 inch beast.

Reports are surfacing that the Verizon bound Droid Fighter will feature a HD Display and will run on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich. Something that has been stressed by Motorola has been improved battery life for its upcoming devices. This is pure speculation but we could see a similar battery to that of the Droid RAZR MAXX. We can expect for an official announcement from both Verizon and Motorola in the coming weeks.

Quick Look: Bolt brings Android browsing to the cloud

by George Heymann

techeadlines@gmail.com

I’ve been playing with a host of third party mobile browsers but always seem to come back to the stock Android browser. Two days ago an innovative browser by Bitstream called ‘Bolt’ came out of beta and is now available in the Android Market.

There is a lot to like about the Webkit based Bolt browser. I particularly like the way it renders web pages, the pages look similar to how they appear on my desktop browser. However, I’ve had some issues with some pages not rendering correctly when I try to tap to zoom in on a section of the web page. Parts of page overlay others making the type unreadable until you manually adjust the page.

Apple rises to the top as global smartphone market grows 65.4 percent

by A. Montaqim

Technology Market

The worldwide mobile phone market grew 65.4% year over year in the second quarter of 2011 (2Q11), marking the third consecutive quarter where total shipments exceeded 100 million units. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 106.5 million units in 2Q11 compared to 64.4 million units in the second quarter of 2010. The 65.4% growth was on par with IDC’s forecast of 67.3% for the quarter and below the 84.0% year-over-year growth in 1Q11.

“The smartphone market crowned a new leader in 2Q11, and its name is Apple,” said Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC’s Mobile Phone Technology and Trends team. “Ever since the first iPhone launched in 2007, Apple has made market-setting strides in hardware, software, and channel development to grab mindshare and market share. Demand has been so strong that even models that have been out for one or two years are still being sought out. With an expected refresh later this year, volumes are set to reach higher levels.”
