Opinion: The problem with Angry Birds Space for Android? It’s still Angry Birds.

by George Heymann |@techeadlines

technology-headlines.com

At the risk of offending Angry Birds fans, Rovio has long since jumped the shark in my estimation with installment after installment of  the Angry Birds franchise. The latest release of the hugely popular franchise Angry Birds Space has the birds chasing a giant claw through a wormhole after it kidnaps their eggs.

The birds find themselves floating in a galaxy surrounded by space pigs. If it sounds ridiculous, it’s only because it is! Angry Birds Space  features 60 interstellar levels on planets and in zero gravity. The game also offers slow-motion puzzles, new birds, new superpowers and zero gravity environments.

I must admit I didn’t play the latest installment long enough to experience all of the new gameplay elements. Although having to alter bird launch trajectories to factor for planet gravity or lack of gravity in space did add to the challenge.

The hit iOS game, Temple Run will be making its way to Android this year, says creator, Imangi Studios. The game developers took to their Facebook page  posting a simple status saying, “On a (Samsung) Galaxy not-so-far away. Temple Run Android coming February 2012. We’re so excited to announce this and appreciate all of our fans’ support across both platforms!” The post has accumulated over 1,000 comments and over 6,000 likes showing that Android users are more then ready for Temple Run to make the jump. Temple Run will be debuting in the Android market in February. Now all we need is for Instagram to reveal a set date to join the Android Market and we will be set for the year.

Bil Simser has been working on an unofficial  Instagram program for Windows Phone, titled Metrogram. If you do not know, Instagram is a popular photo app exclusively for the iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad, etc) that allows you to take pictures and add filters to them. You can then share them with your Instagram followers as well as upload them to Twitter or Facebook. It is unknown if Instagram will accept the development of the Windows Phone app as Bil Simser’s Metrogram program is an unofficial version of the original Instagram application.

10 Things I love and Hate about iTunes

by Laura Backes

www.dslserviceproviders.org

iTunes, like so many other great parts of our digital world, has things we love about it and things we hate about it. Sometimes the things we love, we also hate. Here’s my list of things I love and hate about iTunes.

  1. Love: It’s easy to buy songs – Your credit card or your iTunes gift card are attached to your account, so that all you have to do to purchase songs is click ‘Download’ and it transfers the song to your computer or your iPhone instantly. It’s wonderful!
  2. Hate: Too easy to buy songs – The other side of that story is the fact that it is so easy to do download songs that you do it more often than you would if you were purchasing at a store. It is so easy, that you don’t put as much thought into it and probably buy a lot of music that you wouldn’t have otherwise. Read the rest of this entry »

TECH the HALLS

Electronics gifts don’t have to be budget-busters

by George Heymann

Technology-Headlines

Despite the downturn in the economy, early polling indicates that a majority of consumers — 52 percent — plan to spend the same or more for gifts this holiday season, according to a recent ICM Research report.

Last year, nearly a third of U.S. consumers’ holiday gift-spending budget went to consumer electronics.

I don’t know who the folks are that participated in the ICM poll, but most of my friends and associates have a more conservative budget this holiday season. Keeping in mind that many of us will need to spend less, I wanted to share my picks for hot tech gifts that won’t break the bank or your budget. Happy Holidays!

All You Need Is a Computer Now

by Ruben Corbo

broadbandexpert.com

The Revolution of Computers Taking Over Every Other Technological Device

The computer is the king of electronics. All other forms of entertainment are becoming outdated as computers keep being able to do more. Computers are becoming the focal point of people’s lives. They are no longer just for work and school. Today more people use their computers for entertainment, then they do for their jobs. The computer does things faster, better, and more efficiently than any single device designed specifically for one specific purpose.

Replacing the Radio

The radio was once the focal point of people’s lives. It was where everyone listened to the newest music. People began their days by listening in to their favorite morning talk shows. There was a radio in every home, and you could often see people carrying portable radios with them. You no longer need a radio to enjoy your favorite stations; all you need is a computer.

Shopping choices get easier

by George Heymann

Technology-Headlines

Expect to see big crowds out shopping for e-readers or tablet computers this holiday season.

The flurry of product announcements from Apple, Amazon and Barnes & Noble is revving customer interest in devices that already are hot sellers.

I get asked all of the time for recommendations for both e-readers and tablets.

My answer usually begins with at least two additional questions:

What do you want to do with it?

How much money do you want to spend?
