Google Drive launching next week for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS will include 5GB free storage

by George Heymann | @techeadlines

According to a recent The Next Web (TNW) report, Google’s rumored “Google Drive” service will launch next week @ http://drive.google.com for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS and will include 5 GB of free storage.

I can’t wait to see how the service will integrate with “Google Docs” and how we will interact with Google Drive. TNW is reporting that  Google Drive will work “in desktop folders” on both Mac and Windows machines.

I’ve been a long time Dropbox user, but may replace it with Google Drive as my virtual storage of choice depending on its implementation.

Do you intend to use Google Drive when its released next week?

Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion dollars in cash and stock today. The acquisition was later confirmed in separate statements by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.

Instagram is a wildly popular mobile photo sharing application that has enjoyed record growth from a reported 1 million users in January 2011 to an estimated 30 million users now.

Excerpts from the statements from the Facebook and Instagram CEOs are included below, click the links for the full press release.

I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

Mark Zuckerberg CEO Facebook

Today, we couldn’t be happier to announce that Instagram has agreed to be acquired by Facebook.

It’s important to be clear that Instagram is not going away. We’ll be working with Facebook to evolve Instagram and build the network. We’ll continue to add new features to the product and find new ways to create a better mobile photos experience.

We’re psyched to be joining Facebook and are excited to build a better Instagram for everyone.

Another day, another Samsung Galaxy S III rumor, iPhone 5 coming in June? UK Carriers begin selling the HTC One X and S.

Smartphone Briefs

by Chris Coleman| @PhoneKnack

The latest rumor making the rounds around the Internet is that Samsung is including a Super AMOLED Plus display which would allow the Galaxy S III to showcase its 4.65inch screen at 720p HD resolution. You may be wondering what in the world a smartphone 720p HD display even looks like, well here is a side by side comparison.

The difference between the two is very clear and quite stunning.

With that being said, we can most likely expect the Samsung Galaxy III to be hitting stores sometime in May as AsiaE has reported that carrier testing is currently underway.

Are you ready for the Samsung Galaxy III? We know we are.
