Windows Phone 8 to become third platform on Verizon, Galaxy S III makes cameo appearance in Vietnam?

After garnering some additional attention from carriers for Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is teaming up with Verizon Wireless to help promote Windows Phone 8, which is due out later this year. Verizon’s Chief Financial Officer, Fran Shammo said that Verizon is looking to make Windows Phone their third platform behind iOS and Android.

“We’re really looking at the Windows Phone 8.0 platform because that’s a differentiator. We’re working with Microsoft on it”

While the Windows Phone platform continues to grow it will be interesting to see what other interest they can garner as time gets closer to Windows 8.0 holiday release.

Rumors are constantly flooding the web, its part of the technology world. But what we just stumbled upon may be more then just a rumor. A Vietnamese site has just posted a video of them playing around with the new Samsung Galaxy S III.

Crowdcentric releases list of ‘top 10 social media events that shook the world’

Social Media Week organizers released a list of the “Top 10 Social Media Events that Shook the World.” These events, from the Arab Spring to Wikileaks to Charlie Sheen, were all fundamentally shaped by the use of social media, and in many cases would have never happened without social networks like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Social Media Week was launched by Crowdcentric in 2009 as the world’s first truly global conference designed to help increase understanding of the complex and integrated role social media plays in society. Unlike other conferences, Social Media Week is free to anyone, and those unable to attend in person can participate online to in many of the more than 450 events around the world.

In addition to analyzing social media’s impact, conference participants will discuss the upcoming trends and technologies that will revolutionize social media – and our society – in the months and years ahead. (Top 10 events list after the break)

Survey says: Consumers getting bored with social media

There are signs of maturity in the social media market, as some users in certain segments are showing “social media fatigue”, according to a survey by Gartner, Inc. The survey reveals continued localization of usage, whereby certain country-specific social characteristics dictate preferences. However, large global brands such as Facebook are making headway in countries where they have not historically been strong.

Gartner surveyed 6,295 respondents, between the ages of 13 and 74, in 11 developed and developing markets in December 2010 and January 2011. Consumers were asked about their use of and opinions about social media sites with the aim of examining usage trends and how enthusiastic users were about social media in general across a range of countries.

comScore releases May 2011 US online video rankings

ComScore, a leader in measuring the digital world, has released data from the comScore Video Metrix service showing that 176 million US Internet users watched online video content in May for an average of 15.9 hours per viewer. The total US Internet audience engaged in more than 5.6 billion viewing sessions during the course of the month.

Kid Mode: Make learning fun for Android, iOS as well as Chrome, Mac, and Windows PCs

Kid Mode features free educational, age appropriate software for children age 1 to 8 years old. The software while designed for children allows full parental control of the available materials.

If my experience with friends and co-workers are any indication, parents frequently hand over their smartphones to their children to keep them entertained. I ‘m not sure I would be willing to handover an expensive device to a toddler but if you do, you might want to consider Kid Mode by Zoodles.

Samsung Galaxy SL packs more features than many other phones in its range

Samsung has come up with the updated version of its popular Android smartphone i9000 Galaxy S. The next in the series is i9003 Galaxy SL with a brand new technology – super clear LCD screen. Display is not the only change in the new phone and it turns out that there several major modifications under the hood as well.

Kaspersky predicts big increase in malware attacks on mobile internet devices

Internet security company and maker of antivirus software Kaspersky is warning that the total volume of malware attacks on mobile internet devices will at least double. “After analyzing vast numbers of IT threats during the first quarter of 2011, Kaspersky Lab’s experts identified a number of important trends,” said the company in a statement.
