Nokia takes aim at Apple

Nokia is attempting to make a big splash in the US market and what better way to do that than to go after one of the top players in the game, Apple.

Nokia’s new ad campaign called Smartphone Beta Test, is a series of mock videos that showcases the developmental process of the iPhone. The aim of the campaign is to show the public that they are just part of beta testing while using an iPhone and they should head over to the nearest AT&T store and buy the new Nokia Lumia 900.

CyanogenMod 9 boot animation posted

I have been a CyanogenMod fan for some time now, I’m currently running a custom CM7 Gingerbread rom on a couple of my smartphones. I have briefly run an early Alpha version of a CyanogenMod 9 ICS Rom that is surprisingly stable and responsive for such an early version of the ROM.

I really enjoyed using the ICS ROM, but went back to the Gingerbread ROM because the camera is not yet supported on the Alpha ROM. As soon as this feature is added I will be re-flashing my phone to CM9. (Boot animation video after the break)

Blizzard unveils community website ahead of Diablo 3 beta launch

Blizzard Entertainment has lifted the curtain on its Diablo III community site in anticipation of the forthcoming game and the Diablo 3 beta. Diablo’s third incarnation does not yet have a release date but Blizzard has now announed that a beta version of the dark fantasy horror action RPG will be launched very soon – perhaps by the end of September.

Meanwhile, the company advises fans to join the Diablo III community and check for the latest developments.

“You’ll want to check out the new Diablo III news feed regularly. We’ll use it to share everything about Diablo III and to highlight recent community activity, including your most entertaining videos, art, comics, fansites, and much more,” says Blizzard.

Preview: CrossTxT send and receive text messages from any internet connected PC

CrossTxT is an Android application that allows you to send and receive text messages from any Internet connected computer. Once you set up your CrossTxt account, you will be able to send and receive texts and optionally synchronize your contacts to the CrossTxt database.

If you are familiar with texting through your Gmail account with Google Voice, it’s similar with some additional features and caveats.

Swiftkey X : If you’re not already a TouchType customer you soon will be

If you are a Swiftkey user Touchtype has opened its private VIP only beta to the public. The Swiftkey X beta is now available from the Android Market.

If you haven’t tried the excellent Android replacement keyboard before you’re in for a treat. TouchType has taken its already class leading predictive text algorithm to the next level with the introduction of its next generation cloud based fluency inference engine.

Joe Braidwood, Touchtype’s Chief Marketing Officer, announced a new beta of the excellent Android replacement keyboard Swiftkey. Normally, we wouldn’t be talking about a beta release but today, Swiftkey is opening its VIP Group to the public until midnight Pacific time.

Attention audiobook fans! Audible (An Amazon company) is conducting an open beta of their Android application which effectively closes the audiobook gap on the Google platform. If you would like to try the beta you have to join the Audible Beta Google Group.
