Google has started a new page on Google Plus to share their vision of what its augmented reality glasses could be. They are soliciting suggestions from users on what they would like to see from Project Glass.

“We think technology should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.”

Video after the break.

I love the functionality that is demonstrated in the video, the early prototypes glasses are streamlined and fairly unobtrusive.

The video highlights some of the features which are available as UI elements are overlaid in the users field of vision. Notifications include pop up calendar reminders, temperature, clock, text and weather. In the video when the user moves outside and tries to use the subway, he is notified of a subway service suspension, and is given walking directions complete with a map overlay. As he walks to his destination he is give turn by turn directions, nice! After showing off several other features, the video ends with a video chat.

There are reportedly dozens of other shapes and variations of the glasses in the works, some of which can sit over a person’s normal eyeglasses, according to a recent New York Times report .
