Amazon recently introduced the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library that allows Amazon prime members who own a Kindle device to borrow from over 5,000 titles, including 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers, as frequently as a book a month, for free with no due dates.

There are just two requirements in order to use the lending library, own a Kindle device (does not work on the Kindle app) and be an Amazon Prime member which also entitles you to free two-day shipping on Amazon stocked items as well as unlimited streaming of a growing library of movies and TV shows.

Amazon is currently the only other vendor besides Apple that controls its user experience from end to end. Amazon controls the sale and distribution of the hardware, along with a complete software ecosystem including App Store, cloud storage as well as video and music streaming.

  1. The ability to borrow books is a great incentive for any kind of e-reader. I plan on buying the Kindle for my mother this Christmas and I know she will be interested in the lending library.
