As previously rumored Apple released their new Macbook Air line-up today featuring Intel Sandy-Bridge processors, a Thunderbolt high speed I/O port, flash storage, a backlit keyboard and a high-resolution 16:9 wide aspect ratio LED-backlit display.

The base model features an 11-inch screen with a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 2GB memory, integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor , backlit keyboard and 64GB of flash storage for $949. The price is $50 cheaper than last years base model Macbook Air.

The top of the line Macbook Air features a 13” LED screen with a 1.7 Ghz dual-core Intel i5 processor (optional: 1.8 GHz Dual-Core i7 for $90.00), 4GB Memory, integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor , backlit keyboard and 256GB of flash storage for $1549.

Other models and configurations are available depending on your needs and budget. You can go online to the Apple Store to see the entire lineup.

I’ve been watching the Macbook Air line since its debut as the “Worlds Thinnest Notebook” when it was introduced at the Macbook Expo in 2008. I’ve always admired the design but thought they were horribly overpriced and underpowered.

With the launch of the new Macbook Airs featuring Intel i5 and i7 Sandy-Bridge processors, and high-speed Thunderbolt I/O ports I think Apple has successfully addressed the underpowered issue.

Look for a full review in the coming weeks.
