Amazon trade-in program now includes electronics!

Amazon recently expanded its trade-in program to include electronics. Customers can trade in many items, including tablets, cell phones, MP3 players, cameras, GPS devices and more.

You start at Amazon’s Electronics Trade-In page: Do a search for the item you would like to trade-in, indicate the condition of the item — “Like New,” “Good,” or “Acceptable” — and print out a pre-paid shipping label. You will then receive a valuation of its estimated worth.

“Technology is constantly evolving and newer, better versions of consumer electronics are introduced all the time,” says Paul Ryder, vice president of Electronics for Amazon.com. “We want to give customers the opportunity to get great value from their used electronics. Hundreds of thousands of customers have already received millions of dollars in gift cards from the other products in our program. The Electronics category is a natural extension and we are delighted to offer our customers more trade-in options.”

The process is set up very similar to Gazelle , a site that specializes in buying used electronics. After receipt, Amazon will inspect the item and issue a credit on an Amazon gift card. Items rejected by Amazon are returned shipped to customers at no charge.

I checked a few items at random at both sites to compare valuations:

Apple iPad (first generation) 32gb wifi

  • Amazon up to $288
  • Gazelle up to $263

HTC EVO 4G

  • Amazon up to $209
  • Gazelle up to $162

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V

  • Amazon up to $76
  • Gazelle up to $104

*The comparison prices listed are for items in excellent condition with all accessories included.

As you can see from the three random items I checked the Amazon services and valuations are competitive. It’s great to have another option to trade-in used electronics. If you want to give Amazons Trade-In Program a try simply visit http://www.amazon.com/tradein and start searching for items to trade in.

With Amazon Trade-In, you can pack and ship multiple items in one box and the shipping is free.
