The survey says: Tablets are changing the way users consume media!

The tablet segment is growing at a frantic pace as more users adopt this medium to consume content. Marketers and developers are analyzing the implications of these new usage patterns created by this segment, whose traffic has reportedly grown by 300 percent in the past six months alone.

I know that my tablet use has steadily increased over the past year, from approximately 30 minutes a day to between 60 and 90 minutes a day. The instant on capability makes it my prefered method to browse the web or check Email rather than booting up a desktop computer for short online sessions.

Admob is estimating that more than 165 million tablets will ship over the next two years. Googles recent survey of over 1,400 tablet users found that:

  • 68% of tablet users spend at least 1 hour a day on their tablet
  • 77% of respondents report that their desktop/laptop usage decreased after they started using a tablet
  • 82% of respondents said they primarily use their tablet at home
  • More than 1 in 3 respondents uses their tablet more than they watch TV:
