BlindType has been acquired by Google!

BlindType is a software keyboard replacement that lets you type virtually anywhere on the screen and the software interprets the relative spacing between your key presses to determine what you are trying to type. (Video after the break)

BlindType advertises itself as “Touch typing the way it should be. Accuracy not required.”

After watching the demonstration videos their claims are hard to argue with. BlindType is said to be compatible with different languages and is adaptable from QWERTY to any other keyboard layout.

Unfortunately there is no public beta so for now, many of us will remain skeptical till something is released.

It was originally scheduled to be released for iOS, and Android with support for other platforms to be evaluated after that. Now that Google has acquired BlindType it’s unclear if we can expect the technology to be incorporated on any platform outside of Android.

BlindType issued a press release announcing the acquisition on 10/01/10

We are excited to announce that BlindType has been acquired by Google!

We want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and positive feedback.

We know that typing on your mobile device can be a frustrating experience, which is why we’ve worked hard to make touch typing easier and faster than ever – the way it should be.

We’re excited to join Google, and look forward to the great opportunities for mobile innovation that lie ahead.
