One-click root is now available for N1 and 11 other Android handsets!

Update: 10/18/10 Updated 1-click root here: The exploit used in the root method  described below was closed in a security software update.

Thanks to the ingenious work at XDA developers, there is now a one click root available for the Nexus one and 11 other Android handsets so far. The app was developed using the same exploit that was used to root the Droid X.

I had been hesitant to root my phone till I was out of warranty, luckily this app does not unlock the boot-loader so the warranty stays in tact. The app has a menu option for 1-click unroot, and is supposed to allow the installation of custom roms but I have yet to try either of those features.

You can download the UniversalAndroot.apk here. You must register at XDA to download. The app lives up to its billing once I downloaded the app, I copied the .apk to my SD card and ran it from there. It installed very quickly and is working great for me. Thanks XDA Developers!
